Why is it that in our judicial system they make you swear on the Bible? You got people swearing on something for which they don’t even know its contents. Its just like in the South, how so many people sit and revere the book(as if  the binding material are somehow magic), but never really personally have a clue about whats(the Truth) in it? Does that make the person(often ignorant of spiritual principles) swearing on the Bible blasphemous or the or does it make the presumptuous system that instituted this practice so?

Where do these traditions come from, what are their purposes?
